Nation Rallies to Send Aid to Quake Areas

Many regions around the country are still hard at work to get more relief materials ready. They include tents and temporary houses, so that people left homeless by the quake can be sheltered as soon as possible.

Workers are busy constructing these houses in a middle school. The local government plans to use the houses as dormitories.

The first batch of 250 temporary houses, covering 5000 square meters together, has arrived in Wenchuan. It was donated by Guangdong province in south China.

Lin Zhaoxiong, Staff of Temporary House Construct Group of Guangdong said "We unloaded these materials for construction as soon as we arrived here yesterday. All our staff are working overtime. They're expected to be completed tomorrow afternoon."

Tian Xiaodan, Deputy Governor of Aba Prefecture of Sichuan said "These temporary houses are the first batch under construction. Their quality is also the best we've seen recently. We appreciate the support from Guangdong province."

In Hebei province in north China, many construction companies are making temporary classrooms for quake-affected students.

Nearly 6000 classroom are scheduled to be constructed, with each one measuring some 50 to 60 square meters. The classrooms must meet high standards, including ventilation, lighting, and sanitation requirements. They must also be able to withstand powerful earthquakes.

Hei Longjiang Province in northeast China is also helping out. Hundreds of workers are busy making tents for temporary schools. The first batch of 50 tents is scheduled to be shipped to Sichuan later on Monday.

One worker of Harbin Tents Factory said "We're speeding up our work by hand. We hope the quake-affected children can be housed under these quality tents as soon as possible. "

Epidemic prevention is another crucial task.

In east China's Shandong Province, a local company has donated six hundred thousand pairs of protective gloves. Many organizations and communities have also donated medicines and medical equipment worth more than four million yuan. A local Red Cross is transporting these medical aid to the quake-hit areas.
