Premier Wen Continues to Direct Work in Quake-hit Zone

Premier Wen Jiabao continues to direct rescue and relief work on the frontline. He's stressing epidemic prevention, as well as post-quake reconstruction.

On Saturday morning, Premier Wen Jiabao visited the Zipingpu Dam on the Minjiang River - the Yangtze River's main tributary in Sichuan Province.

On Saturday morning, Premier Wen Jiabao visited the Zipingpu Dam on the Minjiang River - the Yangtze River's main tributary in Sichuan Province.

The dam is near the quake epicenter of Wenchuan County. But experts told the premier the evaluation shows Zipingpu is structurally stable and safe despite some minor damage.

Afterwards, Premier Wen flew to Wenchuan county. He checked on food supplies, drinking water and shelter, and reassured survivors.

Wen Jiabao said, "When you lost your relatives, we lost ours. Please don't be sad. Now let's work together to rebuild our homes. We'll prove in action that Chinese people cannot be defeated."

In Wenchuan county, Wen Jiabao visited Yingxiu Town, the epicenter of the quake, and then flew to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.

In Chengdu, he visited the injured in two hospitals.

This girl wrote "I want to go back to school." And the premier encouraged her to look forward to the future with confidence.

Earlier on Friday evening, Wen Jiabao chaired a meeting of the disaster relief headquarters under the State Council.

Epidemic prevention was stressed as a priority task in the quake zone. Drinking water and food safety must be ensured.

The meeting also decided to set up a planning group for reconstruction. The group has three months to conduct research and come up with a plan.
