Hu: Keep Development Trends, Guard Social Stability

President Hu Jintao has inspected temporary house production enterprises in Langfang in north China's Hebei province, following his three-day inspection in Zhejiang province. The central government has called for the production and construction of temporary houses fr the 14 million displaced.

Besides the tents, one million units of temporary houses are urgently needed.

That's the message President Hu Jintao took to the Yazhi Jicheng Housing company in Langfang, Hebei province on Sunday morning.

The company has been charged with producing 13,500 units. Over 1,000 staff are working around the clock

The president asked the workers about the arrangement of the shifts, the supply of raw materials and any problems they've encountered. Hu jintao stressed how important the houses are to the survivors, and called on the workers to go all-out to help them.

The president then thanked the workers and told them not to sacrifice quality in their drive for optimum efficiency.

Hu Jintao also inspected one of the houses. The insulated shelters can withstand earthquakes, water, fire, cold, and heat.

His next stop was the Zhongtai Construction Corporation. This enterprise is working on six thousand units of temporary houses. Over two hundred of their staff are involved in basic preparations in Sichuan, and three hundred are expected to join them soon for installation.

And like everywhere else, Hu Jintao had words of encouragement.

President Hu Jintao said, "Relocating the displaced people is the most crucial task when launching rescue and relief work. Now the biggest difficulty we face is lack of temporary houses. So production is urgent. I want you to race against time to finish your work when you arrive there, and help people in quake-hit zone to move into their new homes as soon as possible."

Company managers and provincial officials briefed Hu Jintao and then they discussed how to improve the efficiency of the temporary houses and ensure the quality.

Hu Jintao praised the unity of people and army in the war of rescue and relief under the leadership of the central government and related departments. This is in the face of the inestimable casualties and huge economic losses.

The president had four requests for the workers.

He first called on them to overcome all kinds of difficulties and use all means to improve production.

Product quality must be strictly supervised. The houses must meet the needs of ventilation, lighting and sanitation conditions, and be able to withstand earthquakes, fire and water.

The president said the transportation department must be mobilized to ensure the houses reach the quake-zone swiftly and smoothly. The installation team must work to get the people housed as soon as possible.

Last but not least, all government departments concerned must maintain coordination to support production, providing sufficient raw material, parts and funds.

President Hu Jintao also stressed the significance of developing the economy and society, and maintaining social harmony and stability.
