IFRC Inspects Relief Work in Quake Zone

The president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is heading up a delegation to inspect relief work in the earthquake zone. They've just visited the hard-hit city of Dujiangyan.

The head of the Red Cross Society of China accompanied the IFRC delegation on a visit to a field hospital donated by Germany. The hospital is providing medical services for 250,000 people. The officials visited a five-day old baby, the first new life since the hospital set up. His parents have called him Zhongde -- Zhong for China, and De for Germany.

IFRC officials then arrived at the first re-settlement camp in Dujiangyan -- a temporary home for more than 9 hundred people.

Juan Manuel Suarez Del Toro, President of IFRC said "We are glad to see the unity of Chinese people. We are moved by the mutual help among Chinese people, especially the united power from all walks of lives, including Chinese government, military and locals. It sets up an example for the world."

The Red Cross Society of China expressed sincere gratitude to IFRC for its support and donations.
