UN Chief Commends China's Resilience
 

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has commended the Chinese government and people for their strength, resilience and courage in the face of massive challenges caused by the earthquake.

The UN chief Ban Ki-moon visited the residence of China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations on Monday.

In the book of condolences, Ban Ki-moon wrote that China's loss is greater than many the world can fathom, the international community stands behind the people of China in the face of this massive tragedy. The strength, resilience and courage of the Chinese government and people have profoundly impressed the world and the whole UN system and family stand behind China at this time.

Accompanied by China's Permanent Representative to the UN Wang Guangya, Ban Ki-moon stood in silent tribute to the quake victims.

Ban Ki-moon says the UN has contributed seven million US dollars and has dispatched experts and rescuers to China.

Ban Ki-moon wishes China will successfully carry out the Olympic Games which will become the venue for harmony, cooperation and victory of the world.
