Temporary Hospital Successfully Delivers Baby

The People's Liberation Army has set up a number of temporary hospitals in quake-hit areas to provide emergency surgery and medical treatment. One PLA hospital conducted a 10-hour, life-saving feat to help a pregnant woman deliver her child.

One PLA hospital conducted a 10-hour, life-saving feat to help a pregnant woman deliver her child.

This little boy was born in this temporary hospital at 6pm on Tuesday. He is too young to know the urgent situation his mother faced hours before he came into the world. On Tuesday morning, his mother Yang Chunbo was in a critical condition. Her baby couldn't wait any longer to be delivered.

The timing couldn't have been worse. The family lives in Qingshi village in Qingchuan county. The quake-hit hospitals in both the village and county were unable to perform surgery for the distraught woman.

Aftershocks were also frequently jolting the region, making road transport difficult. Time was running out. The lives of the infant and the mother were at risk.

Chen Bin, the father said "Finally, I made up my mind to commit my wife to the PLA's care. I trust them."

After learning of the emergency, the No.153 PLA hospital immediately transported the family to its temporary hospital and successfully performed the surgery.

His father named the baby Zhenping, which means "safety in earthquake."
