As rescue teams race to save lives in the earthquake zone, resettling survivors and preventing disease outbreaks are also key.

In the latest move, the Chinese military is sending nearly 1,200 tons of emergency relief to the disaster areas including generators, portable toilets and water dispensers.

In the quake-hit areas, temporary shelters, relief-dispatch centers and temporary clinics are being built. The Sichuan provincial government has allocated 670 million yuan for disaster relief, and sent 140 truckloads of food and water to the disaster areas.

Meanwhile, more than 13,000 health workers are sterilizing quake ruins and temporary shelters in the eleven hardest-hit areas to prevent disease. They are being guided by 30 experts from the Ministry of Health's Disease Control Center.
