To ensure convenient travel in Beijing, temporary measures have been adopted

Commitment: The capital international airport in Beijing will launch large-scale expansion in order to handle a total annual capacity of 48 million passengers before the year 2008, to fully meet the demand of the Games. All the venues should be within distance no further than 30 minutes by vehicle from the Olympic Village.

Current status quo: Both Terminal 3 and the Third Runway of the Beijing Capital International Airport have been put into operation, and the airport's annual passenger transport capacity hit 76 million. Beijing has finished and put into operation the subway Lines 5 and 10, the Olympic Extension, and the Airport Express Line prior to the start of the Olympic Games. To ensure convenient travel in Beijing, temporary measures have been adopted by the Municipal Government including the use of exclusive Olympic traffic lanes, and a traffic policy for alternate running of even- and odd-number vehicles from July 20 to September 20.
