Commitment: Beijing is expected to earn a total profit of $16 million from the 2008 Olympic Games. The goal for income revenue is set at $1.625 billion, and the running costs are expected to reach $1.609 billion.

Current status quo: Allowing for factors, such as fluctuations in the renminbi currency rate, BOCOG increased the budget for the games to more than $2 billion, a level still short of the $2.4 billion of the Athens Games of 2004. BOCOG officials believe it is able to realize the profit goal of $16 million, thanks to a sound market development.
