Commitment: The Chinese Government will adopt all necessary means to guarantee public security during the Olympic Games, and some 80,000 people are involved in security operations during the Games.

Current status quo: Beijing has heightened security for the Olympic Games, according to China's Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu. The Chinese government and its various relevant security departments are fully prepared to ward off and deal with various security threats. All the forces including public security, armed police, diplomacy and customs, have been mobilized to make an overall effort to support security in Beijing during the Olympic Games. Beijing established a three-level security command mechanism encompassing the central government, districts conducting the Games, and venues. Beijing security departments responsible for the Games have also learnt from other countries that have experience of running Olympic Games.
