Commitment: The Chinese Government will formulate related rules and regulations for the Olympic Games and its symbols, and adopt all necessary legal measures to strengthen protection on Olympic logo copyright.
Current status quo: The Chinese Government has adopted all necessary legal measures to reinforce the protection of the Olympic symbols. The Rules on Protection of Olympic Intellectual Property Right was issued by the Beijing Municipal Government, and went into effect on November 1, 2001. Five months later, Regulations on Protection of Olympic Symbol followed suit. Over the past six years, BOCOG, in coordination with various local departments including industrial and commercial sections, public security, customs and city management, have investigated 1,000 cases infringing upon Olympic symbols, and given due punishment to those involved.
