Commitment: The number of star-level hotels in Beijing will reach 800, with 130,000 guest rooms, outstripping the need of the Games, by the end of 2008.

Current status quo: Beijing houses 816 star-level hotels, comprising over 130,000 guest rooms. Among them, 122 hotels have been contracted with the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 29th Olympic Games (BOCOG), promising to reserve 70 percent of rooms for overseas spectators and media. Statistics from the Beijing Tourism Administration (BTA) show that at least 400,000 visitors will need hotel accommodation in Beijing. That means the majority of them will live in holiday inns and hotels not signed with BOCOG. However, more than 210,000 guest rooms in 4,978 non-star-level hotels are available, and can meet the needs of tourists coming during the Games.
