Activities Instigating Separatism in China Should Come to End
Share

The Warsaw government on Wednesday bestowed the title of "Honorable Citizen" on the visiting Dalai Lama, claiming he was striving for the "ethnic sovereignty and freedom" of Tibet.

The Dalai Lama, who is actually attempting to separate Tibet from China and telling many lies about the region, doesn't deserve the honor. It is hard to understand why the Warsaw government gave such an award to him.

The reward is a breach of basic international justice.

Some people trumpeted the Dalai Lama after the Lhasa riots on March 14, 2008. Some countries greenlighted his visits. Some cities awarded him titles. Some Western media spared no efforts in spreading the Dalai Lama's lies. What is behind all these activities?

Outdated Cold War thinking and ideological bias prevent some people from treating China fairly and this leads to these activities.

They regard China's peaceful development as a threat and deliberately make trouble for China.

It is their sub-conscious choice to allow, fund and even manipulate separatists to hold back China's progress.

China's rapid development makes some people uneasy. For example, the Chinese economy apparently stabilized and swiftly recovered from the global financial crisis after the government adopted effective measures.

However, some had hoped to see a China in trouble instead of working towards deeper cooperation with China to overcome the current global difficulties.

The Dalai Lama is in fact a card played by some Western politicians. They seek to score political points by pandering to the Dalai Lama. They provide a platform on which the Dalai Lama can perform and he makes use of that platform to increase his influence worldwide.

These Western politicians and the Dalai Lama are just using each other.

After the July 5 riots in Urumqi, capital of northwestern China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, some political powers put on a performance similar to that after the Lhasa riots.

What is the result of instigating separatism?

It will only cause resentment among the Chinese people, hurt China's interests and, ultimately, harm the instigators themselves. It is in China's core interests to protect sovereignty and unity and this can't be bargained over.

Therefore, any activities fanning separatism in China should come to an end.
