Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, aims to raise about 100 million yuan ($14.6 million) to comfort the victims of Sunday's riot.

Urumqi Mayor Jierla Isamudin said Wednesday the municipal government has drawn a plan to comfort people injured and disabled in the riot, and also the families of the dead.

The government will also subsidize enterprises that suffered great losses, aiming to help them resume operation as soon as possible, he added.

In the July 5 riot, at least 156 people died and more than 1,000 were injured. More than 260 motor vehicles, including 11 police cars, were smashed or burnt, and 209 shops and two buildings were destroyed by fire.

Government officials began to visit the 1,103 injured people who were still receiving medical treatment in hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Police are using DNA technology to identify some of the dead left from Sunday's riot. The mayor said more than 100 peopled killed by rioters have been identified so far.
