About 300 people attempt to block the streets in the city center around Renmin Road and Nan Men, but armed police soon bring the situation under control.

The riot escalates. Police vehicles are torched at Jiefangnan Road and Longquan Street. Passersby are attacked. Up to 800 people marched to People's Square and rioters add to the damage along the way.
About 9:00 p.m.
About 200 youths riot, gathering around the building of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Xinjiang and shouting separatist slogans. The rioters attempt to break into the complex but fail.
10:00 p.m.
The situation is brought under control after armed security forces are sent to key locations to maintain order.
