This year, the Chinese Government announced a series of measures to enhance land use enforcement and punish illegal land use activities. In May, the Ministry of Land and Resources and the Ministry of Supervision investigated five serious land use cases. In July, a new national land supervisory and inspection system was launched to supervise and investigate the land use and land management situation of local governments.
China has also made more efforts on cooling overheated housing prices. On May 17, the State Council put forward six measures to curb escalating housing prices and to improve the irrational structure of housing supply.
In response to this, relevant ministries and local governments also issued detailed measures for implementation. Thanks to these measures, growth of housing prices in 70 large and medium-sized cities declined from 5.7 percent in the second quarter to 5.5 percent in the third quarter. In October, the rate continued to decrease to 5.4 percent.
