3. Terrorism Continues
Share

The year saw a wave of terrorist attacks worldwide, with more than 1,000 people killed. On July 11, a series of powerful bombs ripped through crowded commuter trains in Mumbai, India, killing at least 190 people. On August 10, British police announced they had foiled a planned terrorist attack and arrested 25 suspects. If successful, the plot to blow up airplanes flying from Britain to the United States could have created another major tragedy on the scope of the September 11 attacks. Picture shows London Heathrow Airport after the foiled attack.
