The year 2006 has witnessed the growth of ties between the mainland and Taiwan in various fields as the Central Government makes further pushes to facilitate cross-strait exchanges.
A cross-strait economic and trade forum in April released a new package of preferential policies to Taiwan residents in facilitating their agricultural export to mainland, improving their education and employment opportunities and expanding their investment channels in mainland. A cross-strait agricultural forum in October jointly hosted by CPC and the Taiwan opposition party, the Chinese Kuomintang, adopted proposals to grant Taiwanese farmers and agricultural enterprises investing in the mainland preferential treatment in project approval, land use, infrastructure development, financial support and quarantine measures. An individual policy at the end of the year allows Taiwan residents to enroll for a mainland exam for registered architects from 2007 and the courses and requirements for the exam are the same for mainland and Taiwan residents.
