In 2007, the output of beer hit 83,500 tons, a rise of 31.9 percent; that of water supply 9,100 tons, up 17.5 percent; and that of bottled (canned) drinking water 11,900 tons, an increase of 3.6 times. The company producing "5100" mineral water achieved an annual producing capacity of 300,000 tons. It sold 10,000 tons of mineral water in the region, ten times the figure of the previous year. The output of cement reached 1.5966 million tons, a fall of 0.5 percent. The cement products produced in the region occupied the most proportion of the market of this kind in the region.
Electric Power
The year 2007 witnessed new headway by Tibet in the electric power industry. The generated energy of the region reached 1.517 billion kWh, up 14.7 percent. A number of key electric power projects proceeded smoothly. Zhikung Power Station was completed and began to generate electricity; Tiger Mouth Power Station began construction; Bahe Xoika Power Station and emergency power generating facilities for the power grids in central Tibet were successfully implemented. The newly-added installed capacity of electric power stood at 50,000 kW.
The theoretical storage quantity of waterpower in Tibet reaches over 200 million kW, ranking first in China. It is a basic way for solving the problem concerning power supply for the farming and herding areas. In 2007, Tibet made great efforts to improve the electric power infrastructure facilities in rural areas. A total of 320 million Yuan was spent on the third phase of rural power grid construction and alternation project, solving the power supply needs of 21 counties, 37,900 households and 178,000 persons.
In the next few years, Tibet will actively accelerate the construction of the continual energy base of "diversion of electricity from west to east" and work hard to strengthen the construction and alteration of the third-level power grid, ensuring the stable operation of the power security. Efforts are also made by Tibet to build a total installed capacity from the present 500,000 kW to 1.2 million kW, basically eliminating the presence of villages without electricity and providing formidable motivation for the great-leap-forward development of the economy and society.
Construction
The added value of the building industry in 2007 reached 7.086 billion Yuan, up 15.4 percent, and the proportion in the GDP increased to 20.13 percent.
Recent years have seen increasing investment in the realty business with further reform of the housing system. Investment in this regard has been increasing at an annual average rate of 21.8 percent. In 2007, Tibet's investment in realty development reached 1.168 billion Yuan, an increase of 31.2 percent. The floor space of houses under construction amounted to 1.1471 million square meters, a rise of 6.4 percent; the floor space of houses completed stood at 412,700 square meters; the floor space of commercial residential houses sold reached 607,800 square meters, up 6.4 percent.
