Tibet's unprecedented achievements over the past 30 years prove that the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the socialist road have been and will continue to be the basis and guarantee for the prosperity of the region.

Wu Bangguo, vice-premier of the State Council, made the aforementioned comments in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, on August 31. He was heading a delegation from the central government for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Speaking at a conference of local officials, Wu said the entire nation should assist Tibet, while the region itself should consolidate self-dependence in terms of economic development.

Wu commented on social stability in Tibet by saying, "The NO.current situation is stable, but certain factors of instability continue to exist.

In May, the Dalai Lama illegally declared a Tibetan boy was the reincarnated soul boy of the late 10th Bainqen.

According to Wu, the Dalai Lama's move was a violation of religious rituals and historical precedents, and represented a new attempt by the Dalai clique to split the motherland.

"Our struggle against the Dalai clique is simply a continuation of a series struggles," said Wu. "The heart of the matter is safeguarding the unity of the motherland and struggling against separatism, rather than whether to believe in a religion or not."

"The Tibetan people have always cherished a glorious patriotic tradition. Today, we must continue to wave the banner of patriotism, unity and progress. We must thoroughly quash the hostile plots of international forces and the Dalai clique to create unrest in so as to split China," he warned.

Following a brief review of Tibet's achievements over the past 30 years, Chen Kuiyuan, CPC secretary of the autonomous region, said that all Kind-hearted and unbiased people will reach a fair judgment on the sharp contrasts between the old and new Tibet.

According to Chen, the central government has allocated well Over 30 billion yuan(about US$4 billion at current exchange rate) in the form of either investments or Subsidies to Tibet over the 30 years, following of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Chen also attributed Tibet's achievements to the unselfish support of the rest of the country. He noted that the 43 construction projects completed in 1983, in addition to the 62 projects initiated in 1994, as well as numerous other new projects, bear witness to the nation's effort to assist Tibet.
