Centennial Commemorations of 1911 Revolution Boosts Cross-Straits Relations
Share

Celebrations held to commemorate the centennial of the 1911 Revolution will boost cross-Straits communication and development, said spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office (SCTAO) at a regular press briefing Wednesday.

Fan Liqing, the spokeswoman for the SCTAO, said that the 1911 Revolution is a great landmark for Chinese people striving to revitalize the nation.

"Sun Yat-sen, the revolutionary forerunner and leader of the revolution, was dedicated to the revitalization and reunion of China throughout his life," said Fan. "His spirit still inspires compatriots across the Strait."

The 1911 Revolution led to the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the last monarchy in China, ending about 2,000 years of imperial rule in China and marking the start of modern China.

According to Fan, media communications will be another bridge for the peaceful development of the cross-Strait ties and exchanges.
