12th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention Opens in Chengdu

The 12th World Chinese Entrepreneurs convention has opened in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province. Organizers say this year's event is the largest ever, as the city known for pandas tries to boost its economic competitiveness and global trade links.

This year's convention is running under the theme of development and the opportunities for Chinese businesses.

The convention has been a key platform for Chinese entrepreneurs to meet and sign deals with businesses from around the world.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, together with local government officials, spoke at the opening ceremony.

More than 3000 entrepreneurs from more than 100 countries and regions are taking part. Several forums looking at Chinese economic development and overseas Chinese entrepreneurs in China will also be held.

Many overseas Chinese investors are participating in this year's forums, as they search for ideas and investment strategies to help hasten the global economic recovery.

Cai Qisheng, president of Singapore Chinese chamber of commerce & industry, said: "We do some of the core business in Singapore, and of course it's related to our business overseas. But we have different requirements when it comes to technology and labour, it is better for the development of companies.

In recent years, Sichuan's global links have grown rapidly. Countless countries have established economic and trade ties with the province, and over 200 of the world's top 500 companies have set up businesses here.

Now, it's only a matter of time until those global links, transform this region into a more prosperous business hub, deep inside China's interior.
