Taipei Zoo's three-week-old female panda cub, named Yuanzai, has learned to "speak out" her needs to her nurse.
The baby panda can now make different kind of sounds to attract the attention of her caretakers. A short and pressing sound indicates she is hungry, while an intermittent groan means that she is not feeling good and may want to defecate.
And mumbling after a meal means she enjoyed the meal and feels like a nap. Yuanzai, who has not yet been able to open her eyes, has grown some black and white fur. Zoo officials say she has great appetite, which is a sign of good health.
Yuanzai now weighs 765 grams, more than four times her weight at birth. Yuanzai is the first cub born to Yuan Yuan, and her mate Tuan Tuan, who were gifted to Taiwan by the Chinese mainland in 2008. (CNTV.cn July 28, 2013) |
