Chinese Auditor Becomes First Laureate of UN Peace Prize

China's Auditor General, Liu Jiayi, has been awarded a United Nations (UN) Peace Prize, in recognition of his auditing work for UN peace-keeping operations.

Liu is auditor general of China's National Audit Office, and is also on the UN Board of Auditors. Ameerah Haq, head of the UN department of field support, presented Liu with the prize at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.

This is the first time the UN awards the peace prize. Haq praised Liu and his office for their efforts in supporting UN peace-keeping operations and maintaining world peace.

Liu says the prize is not only an honor for him and his team, but a recognition of China's role in maintaining world peace and promoting common development for countries around the world. He promises to work harder for lasting peace and human progress.
