Chinese machinery maker Sany's lawsuit against U.S. President Barack Obama for cancelling a wind farm project. The court session due to begin on Wednesday has been deferred to July 10.
The Divisional Court of the District of Columbia said the court date was postponed because of reasons including schedules of the judges. Last September, Obama asked Ralls Corporation, a subsidiary of Sany in the U.S., to withdraw from a wind farm project in Oregon on security grounds.
In October, Ralls filed an indictment listing Obama, former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. as defendants. Ralls Vice President Wu Jialiang defends the company's decision.
Wu said, "We did not choose to sue Obama, it's just a normal process of this case. The order became a permanent bill because the president signed it. So we have no choice but to sue the president."
Wu also outlined what the company hopes to get out of the case.
"I think a fair judgement should justify that our wind power project will not threaten U.S. national security, it is just an ordinary commercial venture. We will seek reasonable economic compensation for the withdrawal from the project," Wu said.
Sany is not the first Chinese firm to be knocked back for U.S. investments due to security concerns. Sany Group has called on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. for more open reviews of Chinese investments. (CNTV.cn May 29, 2013) |
