Lushan Middle School is a temporary settlement for people affected by the April 20 earthquake in Lushan County, Sichuan Province. Quake victims take shelter in 200 tents in the high school on April 23.

Nearly 400 boarding students in the school, together with faculty and staff, set up tents donated by the Red Cross Society of China.

The school's 1,459 students are divided into three grades, with 10 classes in each grade and about 40 students in each class.

Classroom buildings were damaged in the earthquake, so makeshift classrooms are needed. Volunteers from Southwest University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu set up a tent school outside the building so that some students could attend classes there.

Teacher Zhou Weiqi said plans for all classes to resume on April 24 had been postponed pending construction of the temporary classrooms for students.

Moreover, 359 students who are graduating this summer were relocated to the university's Chengdu campus on the afternoon of April 23 so that they could resume classes the next day.
