China's top political advisor reiterated Friday that the country's advisory body should have a bigger role in national affairs.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks at the concluding session of the four-day meeting of the Standing Committee of the 11th CPPCC National Committee.

Jia reviewed the speech given by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, who called on the advisory body to shoulder greater responsibility and act more in building the country.

According to a decision adopted, a new chairman of the national advisory body will be elected at the first annual session of the 12th National Committee of the CPPCC, which is scheduled to open on March 3.

The upcoming annual session will also elect vice chairpersons, general secretary and Standing Committee members of the 12th CPPCC National Committee.

The session will deliberate and vote on the work report submitted by the 11th CPPCC National Committee and the report on the work proposal.

Members of the 12th CPPCC National Committee will attend the first session of the 12th National People's Congress, the national legislature, which will open on March 5, to hear and discuss the government report as well as other reports.

Jia said that during the last five years, advisory bodies at all levels have made great contribution to the construction of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and promoted socialist modernization.

"All the fruits have been achieved by joint efforts of the members of the 11th CPPCC National Committee, which has significantly contributed to the country's scientific development and social harmony," Jia said.

The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has depicted a blueprint for China to take the victory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, as well as improved the political consultation system and consolidated the patriotic united front, he said.

Jia urged all CPPCC members to fully implement the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress, pursue a correct political direction, improve work style and continue to enhance efficiency and quality.
