Share

Huang Qifan was re-elected mayor of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Thursday at the first session of the fourth municipal People's Congress, the local legislature.

Huang, from east China's Zhejiang Province, started working in 1968 at a Shanghai coking plant. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in March, 1976.

Huang, 60, got his Master degree in Business Administration from the China Europe International Business School in December 1999 while serving as deputy secretary general of the Shanghai Municipal Government.

Huang was vice mayor of Chongqing from October 2001 to December 2009 and has served as acting mayor and vice secretary of the CPC Chongqing municipal committee since December 2009.

He was first elected Chongqing mayor in January 2010.

At the same session on Thursday, Zhang Xuan was elected chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress. Zhang had been serving as vice secretary of the CPC Chongqing municipal committee since May 2007.
