China and India have agreed to hold their first joint military exercise in five years. The decision was made at the fifth annual defense dialogue in Beijing on January 14. Military ties between the two countries have recently grown warmer, following a period of strain.
At the meeting, Chinese Deputy Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Qi Jianguo and Indian Defense Secretary Sashi Kant Sharma reached an agreement on "a plan of bilateral military exchanges for 2013 including their next joint military exercise."
The two sides also agreed to expand exchanges between their armies, navies and air forces, and reviewed measures to maintain peace along their disputed border. (CNTV.cn January 15, 2013) |
