Hong Kong is to set up a commission to investigate the October 1 ferry crash near Lamma Island, which killed 39 people.
Hong Kong's Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said the regional government is identifying highly credible people for the commission. They will look into the facts and circumstances leading to and surrounding the collision of the two vessels.
The commission is expected to report to the chief executive within six months from the date of appointment. Lam said the Social Welfare Department is providing counselling and assistance in burial arrangements. The Community Care Fund will assist families with financial difficulties.
