Chinese Pandas Arrive in Singapore

A pair of giant pandas has arrived in Singapore from southwest China's Sichuan Province. The male panda, known as Kai Kai, is five years old and weighs 111 kg. The female, known as Jia Jia, is a year younger and weighs the same.

Two Chinese keepers accompanied the pandas to their new residence at the River Safari Zoo run by Wildlife Reserves Singapore, where they'll live for the next ten years. The keepers will stay with the pandas until they've settled in to their new home.

They'll be quarantined for one month, during which time they'll have the chance to explore and familiarize themselves with their new surroundings before being visited by the public.

The project is part of an effort by China and Singapore to raise public awareness about wildlife conservation and develop a breeding program for endangered animals.
