Flood control challenges remain high, after torrential rains raised water levels on the Yellow and the Yangtze rivers. On Monday, Lanzhou, the capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, saw the worst flooding of the Yellow River since 1986.
Meanwhile, Jinzhou, a city in Hubei Province at the lower end of the Yangtze River, is facing a lot of pressure as a high flood peak passes the Three Gorges Dam. The dam is located in central China between Chongqing Municipality and Hubei Province.
More rain is expected in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in the coming days. The national flood control authorities have called for even greater efforts to limit further flooding.
