The 2012 International AIDS Conference has opened in the U.S. with a panel calling for HIV/AIDs to be made a political priority. They are also calling for more investment in research.
Delegates from 195 countries and regions including China attended the meeting. AIDS became China's leading cause of death among infectious disease as early as 2008. The number of people affected is increasing, which has been estimated at around 1 million.
The country aims to control the AIDS affected people at 1.2 million by 2015. Most of the death cases are related with drug addiction and prostitution.
