This year marks the 15th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. In the run up to the anniversary on July 1, an exhibition named "Towards a Better Tomorrow" has been launched in Beijing to celebrate the event.

Vice President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and toured the exhibition.

Before the opening ceremony, Xi met Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang. Xi applauded Hong Kong's achievements over the past 15 years, and praised Tsang's seven years as the region's chief.

Xi said the Central Government will support incoming chief Leung Chun-ying, and the Hong Kong local government, to push forward the city's development based on the rule of law.

Xi also praised the exhibition, saying it directly shows the mainland and Hong Kong's cooperative development and achievements. Xi added that it's conducive to foster peoples confidence on the one country, two systems, and to enhance confidence of co-development of Hong Kong and the mainland.

Tsang said with the strong support of the Central Government and the people of the motherland, and the determination and perseverance of Hong Kong people, the city has overcome challenges in finance, public health and many other areas.

The exhibition is held at the National Museum of China in Beijing from June 27 to July 9. The exhibition comprises five sections, namely road to reunification and "one country, two systems," mutually beneficial co-operation between Hong Kong and the mainland, reminiscences of the old days, Hong Kong -- Asia's world city, and towards a better future.

The exhibition showcases Hong Kong's exciting city landscape, and its future development plans.
