As the second Beijing International Film Festival opens its curtains, China has experienced a booming season with more new movies released and an increase in international collaboration.
34 cinema chains from around China have sent their experts to get a preview of more than ten films which will be seen in theaters in the country. That includes Lacuna, The Avengers, An Inaccurate Memoir, To My Wife and documentary Lop Nur.
Iron Man 3, the latest installment in the popular franchise, has gotten a Chinese partner. Chinese entertainment and marketing group DMG (Digital Media Group) will invest at least 1 billion yuan ($158 million) in the film and will help distribute it in China. The move is Hollywood's latest effort to forge closer ties with China's fast-growing film industry.
Initiated last April, the Beijing International Film Festival is a new member of China's various film festivals and awards. The top ones are the Shanghai International Film Festival, China's only A-category international film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations and the Huabiao Film Awards, China's highest government honor in the film industry.
Other festivals include the domestically prestigious Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, the biennial Changchun Film Festival, Hong Kong Film Awards and Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. China has also established a film festival dedicated for college students since 1993. (CNTV.cn April 24, 2012) |
