Thursday is an annual occasion for women around the globe to celebrate their own special 24 hours for International Women's Day. Chinese women across the country are honoring the day in distinguishing ways.

In Huangling County, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, about 160 women from various social circles gathered for some friendly sports competitions. Participants said events like "kangaroo jumping" and "crossing the river blind," were fun and full of team spirit.

Dalian, a northeastern harbor city, hosted a concert called "Happiness Blooms in Spring" where over 400 ladies were present.

Promotions have begun in dozens of shopping centers in the capital city. Makeup counters and new clothing styles drew large crowds, while gold and diamond "buy-one-for-one-free" sales attracted high numbers.
