Construction of the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline, one of China's four largest energy channels, has been accelerated to keep up with the scheduled trial operation dated in the second half of 2013. That's according to its builder Southeast Asia Pipeline Corp., a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corp.
The project includes a crude oil pipeline and a natural gas pipeline that start from Maday Island in the southwest of Myanmar and end in Ruili City, southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The construction started in June 2010 in Myanmar, and so far almost 300 kilometers of pipelines have been completed.
The Southeast Asia Pipeline Corporation said it has taken great care to protect local environment during construction.
To protect the local ecosystem, the pipelines bypassed Myanmar's rivers and irrigation systems, despite increased costs for the building company. (CNTV.cn February 13, 2012)
