Chengdu: New Driving Force of Auto Industry

Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Ferrari will be among the famous brands showing off their vehicles at the 2011 Chengdu International Auto Show from September 16 to 25.

Global motoring giants, who have previously focused on Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou as their primary markets on the mainland, will target the untapped western China market during the largest motoring show in that part of the country.

Eight hundred brands from more than 300 manufacturers will be on display at the exhibition, which occupies in excess of 120,000 square metres. Twenty two of the individual booths will exceed 1,000 square metres.

German carmaker Audi will occupy a 2,000-square-metre area; and Mercedes-Benz and BMW follow with 1,800 and 1,600 square metres, respectively. Manufacturers from the United States and Japan will also be in attendance.

Among the new models on display will be the BMW 6 Series and Audi A1, and the latest from local brands Chery, BYD and Geely.
