Shenzhen Universiade Holds Opening Ceremony Drill

There's less than two weeks to go until the start of the Shenzhen Universiade. Organizers are ramping up preparations for the event, including a full-scale drill for the opening ceremony that will feature all the equipment that will be needed for the gala.

The Main Stadium of the Shenzhen Universiade Center is big enough to hold approximately 60-thousand people. Spectators will also be able to view a large LED screen that encircles the stadium. The fireworks show displayed during the rehearsal was especially spectacular.

The opening gala is also environmentally friendly. The performing stage is being built with material from 11 million plastic bottles. The bottles were all recycled by Shenzhen residents.

One of the groups performing during the opening will be 900 students from the Shaolin Kung Fu School of martial arts. The group has been training in the host city for the past two months. The team has also had to deal with the hot and steamy weather of Shenzhen while practicing their routine.
