Global Top-Notch Auto Makers Gear up in Shanghai

The 2011 Shanghai Auto Show is just around the corner, and today is the first media preview. Around 9,000 journalists from all over the globe witnessed the debut of more than 70 new models.

A first glimpse of the new models that will be sold around the world. Global auto makers are showcasing their latest products and technology during the media preview day of the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show. With China becoming a major driving force for the auto sector, global car manufacturers see the show as an ideal platform to showcase the latest luxury sedans, SUVs, and electric cars.

More than 1,000 models from more than 20 countries are on display at the show. Seventy five of them are making their world premiere. And they all have one thing in common - cars are becoming increasingly stylish, smart, and comfortable. Many auto-makers have also taken the demands of Chinese consumers into consideration when designing their cars. The new Jaguar XJ 3.0 is one of them. The suspension system has been specially optimized for Chinese conditions, and aimed at increasing driving comfort.

While style is important, what now matters more is fuel economy. And that's why new energy vehicles, led by electric cars, are taking the lion's share in both venue space and attention at this year's auto show. Mercedes Benz has unveiled its first-ever zero-emission automobile, the F-cell model. The F-cell can travel 240 miles when fully filled. And each refueling takes only three minutes.

Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows a total of 1.35 million sedans, SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles were sold in March nationwide, recovering from low growth in February. And global auto makers who suffered setbacks in previous months are seeing the Shanghai Auto Show as a chance to boost their sales.
