Strong Quake Jolts Tibet

An earthquake measuring 5.5 degrees on the Richter scale hit Baingoin County of Tibet Autonomous Region, at 20:47 p.m. Sunday, according to China National Seismological Network.

The epicenter was located at 35.7 N and 88.3 E, about 370 kilometers away from the county seat of Baingoin.

The quake area, with an average altitude of 5,000 meters, is scarcely populated.

There has been no report of casualties.
