The People's Daily, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China, posted a commentary on Sunday saying that the Dalai Lama clique was "playing with words" to drum for the so-called "Tibet issue."

Under the title "Attempts to split the motherland are doomed to failure", the commentary says the only key word of various definitions put forward by the Dalai Lama clique, including the so-called "middle-way" and "high autonomy," was nothing but "Tibetan independence."

The Dalai Lama clique has never given up its attempt to and its ultimate purpose is to secede Tibet from China, the commentary says.

Tibet is an inalienable part of China, and no country in the world has recognized the so-called "Tibet independence", the commentary says.

National unification and ethnic unity is in the fundamental interests of the Chinese people, the commentary concludes.
