China Thursday renounced a resolution introduced into the United States House of Representatives on Wednesday, which demands international investigations of Tibet, saying it "smeared" China and applied "unreasonable pressure" on the country.

"We have seen many illegal and violent riots in several European and US cities, and I would like to ask how the governments there have handled them and how other countries responded?" Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a regular briefing.

"Why is it that they have taken such a different attitude toward the Chinese government?"

The most pressing issues for investigation are the violent attacks on some Chinese embassies overseas last month, she said.

More than 10 Chinese embassies and consulates in Europe and the United States were attacked by violent protestors after riots occurred in Lhasa and other ethnic Tibetan areas in the country.

"They should first thoroughly investigate the identities of those behind the scenes to find out who the rioters are and what their purpose is," Jiang said.

"Once these things are made clear, much more truth will come to light."
