Latin Grammy Award-winning singer Luis Fonsi has been announced to have joined the cast of Forever Tango. Forever Tango originally enjoyed a long run back in the 1990s and it recently returned to its original Broadway home, the Walter Kerr Theatre, July this year. The acclaimed pop star will perform for two weeks starting August 20 and ending September 1.
Created and directed by Luis Bravo, Forever Tango has touched hearts of tens of thousands worldwide since its inception in San Francisco in 1994, where it thrilled audiences for nearly two years. Called "a must-see" by the New York Times, Forever Tango originally opened on Broadway in 1997 where it ran for fourteen months and earned multiple Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations.
In the last 15 years, Forever Tango traveled many times to Asia, including China, Korea and Japan and it enjoyed great success every time.
"It's thrilling to welcome Luis Fonsi into the talented cast of Forever Tango," said Luis Bravo. "I'm delighted that New York audiences will have the opportunity to experience this talented Latin vocalist live on Broadway."
Fonsi is third guest vocalist on this Broadway tour. The show's other two guest vocalists were Gilberto Santa Rosa and Luis Enrique, who performed in July and August, respectively.
"Performing on Broadway is an honor and a challenge for any artist. I am excited to be able to join such an important show that celebrates our music and culture, in this case a genre so elegant and sentimental as the Tango," said Luis Fonsi.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Orlando, Florida, Luis Fonsi appeared on the music scene in 1998 with the release of his debut album Comenzare, which became an instant hit on Billboard's Latin albums chart, making him a star in Puerto Rico and across Latin America.
"I love and respect theatre so I am truly honored to have the opportunity to take my voice to the Broadway stage," he told the press on August 21.
