From September 15, five Shanghai documentaries and the a new publicity film — Shanghai, City of Inspiration — will present the vibrant international city on Discovery Channel in the Asia Pacific region for a month.
On September 12, the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality and Discovery Networks International held a signing ceremony at the Discovery building in Washington as part of a joint broadcast activity held by the State Council Information Office, the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality and Discovery Networks International.
The five documentaries took almost three years to be produced by professionals from both Discovery and the China Intercontinental Communication Center (CICC), a media company affiliated to the State Council Information Office.
The Shanghai World Expo Park depicts the large-scale preparation for Expo 2010 and the concept of a harmonious city; The Transport Hub of Hongqiao District, Shanghai reflects the rise of the biggest transport hub in the world; The Revamp of Shanghai City is a mirror to construction achievements like the Shanghai World Financial Center; Construction of the Beijing-Shanghai Railway tells the miracle of constructing the railway connecting Beijing and Shanghai; The Bridge Over Hangzhou Bay portrays the bridge that stretches over the largest bay of the East China Sea and links Shanghai to the Yangtze River Delta.
The publicity film Shanghai, City of Inspiration is a new product finished in May this year by a team of mixed nationalities working for the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality. Each documentary adopts substantial materials, novel perspectives and fine production techniques. They are brilliant video works epitomizing the international perspectives on Shanghai.
By then, the documentaries will be broadcast two or three times a week on Discovery Channel Southeast Asia, which serves many countries including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia; Discovery Channel Australia and New Zealand, which covers Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific; Discovery Channel Japan and Discovery Channel Taiwan.
