The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in late 2006 was another milestone in the history of Sino-African relations. Chinese President Hu Jintao declared eight measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation. In February 2007, Hu visited eight African countries and unveiling ceremonies at the first economic cooperation zone, agricultural demonstration center and a malaria prevention and control center that China built in Africa.
Thanks to the joint efforts and close cooperation between China and Africa, the eight measures were implemented smoothly and have made achievements to some extent since the Beijing Summit. China has signed the framework agreements concerning preferential loans with 20 African countries to support 27 projects. The Africa Union Headquarters Center will start construction this December and is expected to be completed in 2011. A total of 10 Chinese enterprises have established factories in Zambia Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, nine have investment in the Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone of Egypt, and four have entered Lekki Cooperation Area of Nigeria. Meanwhile, China has exempted 150 debts from 32 African countries, trained 8,627 Africans and dispatched 113 youth volunteers. It has established 10 anti-malaria centers for African countries, and another 10 are expected to be established in 2009. |
