Performers rehearse the opening ceremony for the 2011 Summer Universiade at Shenzhen Bay Stadium in early August.

The 2011 Summer Universiade, the 26th World University Games, kicked off on August 12 in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province. A total of 7,865 athletes from 152 delegations from all over the world participated in the universiade. The competition will last until August 23.

Shenzhen is located directly north of Hong Kong. It is a busy port and one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
