An ammunition supply truck explodes in Tika, 30 km south of Benghazi, Libya, after an air strike by French and British bombers on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces.
Mass anti-government protests broke out in Libya on February 15, demanding an end to the 42-year rule of Gaddafi. Clashes resulted in casualties. Continued clashes finally erupted into a civil war.
The UN Security Council approved a no-fly zone over Libya on March 17. France launched its first air strike on Gaddafi's forces on March 19. Other NATO countries such as Britain and the United States also joined the military operation.
