GARBAGE CLASSIFICATION MATTERS: In order to encourage more people to classify garbage in daily life, a competition is held in a community in Hangzhou, southeast China's Zhejiang Province (XINHUA) |
Help Garbage Find Home
A recent survey on garbage classification in south China's city of Shenzhen shows that 90 percent of the city's dwellers support garbage classification but 80 percent of the families have not done so. Classified outdoor dustbins have not played a role in helping to classify the garbage.
The fact that 90 percent of local residents support garbage classification shows that low carbon and environmental protection is dear to people's hearts. Meanwhile, the reality is that 80 percent of them are not classifying garbage. Those who are not doing so might be too busy, may lack relevant knowledge of garbage classification or may doubt about the advantage of garbage classification. Even most garbagemen do not do the classifying work, and instead pour the rubbish all into one garbage truck.
It requires time to put such a classification plan into practice, but residents must first be informed of the types of garbage—such as daily garbage, plastic, metal, junk—and the method of classifying. It's also necessary for producers to identify classifications on their packages. In this way, people will know clearly what to do about garbage classification and the plan will be implemented smoothly.
