Disney English recently held a meeting for parents to communicate with experts on how to master English better by Multiple Intelligences (MI) method.
MI is an internationally advocated teaching theory founded by Harvard University. It uncovers eight main modes that children's brains process information, of which six are connected to language facility, said Wang Qiang, a member of Disney English expert group and Director of the Center for Foreign Language Education and Teacher Education of Beijing Normal University.
"The MI teaching method is generally acknowledged efficient in helping children master a second language," she said.
"Disney English employs the method, hoping to cultivate children's English language learning capability by letting them enjoy multiple intelligence activities such as singing, games, role playing and answering questions," said Wade Nichols, Curriculum Advisor of Disney English, a new business of the Walt Disney Company. Disney English has opened 11 training centers in Shanghai and six in Beijing. More will be set up in 2011.
A survey done by McKinsey shows Chinese children's English language learning is a huge market worth $2.1 billion, not including public or governmental expenses. |
